Job Purpose
The Heavy Equipment Electrician is responsible for performing advanced diagnostics, repairs, and maintenance on electrical systems across a range of heavy equipment sold and supported by SDEC. This role requires strong technical expertise, a commitment to high‑quality workmanship, and the ability to work independently at customer sites and various job locations.
Main Responsibilities
- Ability to read and understand electrical drawings
- Perform voltage changes on generators based on customer requirements.
- Re-wire, adjust, upgrade/install control panels and voltage regulators.
- Determine necessary parts and special tools required to complete jobs.
- Diagnose issues with the Alternator.
- Adjust speed controls and various settings.
- Run load bank tests on the generator.
- Work closely with the Workshop Supervisor and Service Manager on project progress, estimates.
- Maintain a safe work environment at work sites.
- Use electronic software and tools to diagnose, repair and reprogram generator controllers and related parameters.
- Install, maintain, and enhance electrical systems and components, including fuses, lights, and wiring.
- Inspect, test, and diagnose issues with electrical systems and components.
- Perform all work in a manner that meets and follows electrical codes, blueprints, and standards.
- Test electrical systems and components to ensure proper functioning.
- Complete required documentation of repairs and service information.
- Ensure adequate inventory of necessary supplies and parts.
- Calibrate equipment to provided specifications.
- Perform preventative maintenance on electrical systems and components.
- Troubleshoot problems and make timely repairs.
- Thorough and timely completion of job documentation.
- Provide inputs to improve, update and add to the Work Instruction Manual.
HSE Responsibilities
- Adhere to follow all company Quality, Health, Safety, And Environmental (QHSE) policies, procedures, and legal requirements.
- Promptly identify and report unsafe conditions, incidents, and near misses to the appropriate supervisor or QHSE team.
- Properly use, maintain, and store personal protective equipment (PPE) and safety tools as required by the job.
- Attend and actively participate in mandatory Safety inductions, HSE trainings, safety meetings, emergency drills and root cause investigations.
- Follow established emergency response procedures, including evacuation plans, fire response, and first aid if trained.
- Follow protocols to minimize environmental impact, including proper waste disposal and reporting spills or leaks.
- Provide suggestions to enhance Quality, Health, Safety and Environmental procedures and take responsibility and initiatives for continual improvement.
Qualifications & Relevant Certifications
- Technical Diploma/associate degree with major Electrical
- Technical training certificates from OEMs
- Driving License preferably GCC driving license
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
- Working knowledge of Electrical components of genset like alternator, control panel
- Troubleshooting and field repair of large sophisticated high or low speed diesel driven generators, low, medium, and high voltage 13.8KV as well as control devices e.g., auto-start, auto load share, auto-parallel, auto-stop, synchronizing
- Programming of controllers like Deep Sea and Synchronization systems
- Practical knowledge of Mechanical, Thermal, Hydraulic, Electronics principles
- Perform welding, fabrication, and calibration as needed
- Thorough knowledge of Diesel Engine, Fuel, Lubrication, Cooling and Exhaust systems particularly of the rating used for Power generation and applications in Oil & Gas industry
- Experience in servicing and repairing alternators of different name brands like Stamford, Marelli, Leroy-Somer, Mecc Alte, and Marelli along with control panel components like ATS, MCCB, MCB, PLCs and busbars for applications like synchronization
- Highly proficient in Technical English
- Proficiency with MS Office Suite particularly MS Outlook and Calendar
- A strong commitment to all health and safety guidelines
- Effective communication in English
- Analytical and systematic problem-solving approach
- Prior experience in customer-facing roles is preferred
